Pokémon (an abbreviation for Pocket Monsters in
Japan) is a Japanese media franchise managed by The Pokémon
Company, a company founded by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures.
The franchise was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996, and is
centered on fictional creatures called "Pokémon". In Pokémon,
humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train Pokémon to
battle other Pokémon for sport. All media works within the
franchise are set in the Pokémon universe. The English slogan for
the franchise is "Gotta Catch ‘Em All!". There
are currently 913 Pokémon species.
Ash Ketchum
Ash Ketchum, known as Satoshi (サトシ) in Japan, is a fictional
character in the Pokémon franchise owned by Nintendo. He is the
protagonist of the Pokémon anime and certain manga series as well
as on various merchandise related to the franchise. In Japanese,
the character is voiced by Rika Matsumoto, and Hana Takeda. In the
English dub, he was voiced by Veronica Taylor in the first eight
seasons and has been voiced by Sarah Natochenny since season 9. In
the Hindi dub, Prasad Barve dub Season 1–14 for Cartoon Network,
Season 10 for Disney and Nachiket Dighe for Season 1–9, 11–present
for Disney. In the Korean dub, he was voiced by Choi Deok-Hui in
the first five seasons and first two films, An Hyeon-Seo in
Pokémon films three through five, and has been voiced by Lee
Seon-ho since season six and the sixth Pokémon film.
Brock
Brock, known as Takeshi (タケシ) in Japan, is a fictional
character in the Pokémon franchise owned by Nintendo. In the
Pokémon video games, he is the Gym Leader of Pewter City and
mainly uses Rock-type Pokémon. In the anime series, Ash comes
across a man that is later revealed to be Brock's father. He
explains that Brock wanted to become a Pokémon Master but due to
his father leaving, Brock had to take care of his many, many
siblings and could not leave. This is why he became a gym leader,
to stay close to his family. His father comes back and states that
he will take care of the family. Brock left his position as a Gym
Leader to travel alongside Ash Ketchum and became a revered
Pokémon breeder. He later cultivates his skill in medicine, and
goes to Pewter City in order to train and become a Pokémon doctor.
He has also appeared in several Pokémon manga series, including
Pokémon Adventures and the Ash & Pikachu manga.
Misty
Misty, (original Japanese name Kasumi (カスミ) - pronounced
kɑ-su-mi), is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise owned
by Nintendo and created by Satoshi Tajiri. She has appeared as a
Gym Leader in the Pokémon video games Pokémon Red and Blue,
Pokémon Gold and Silver, and their respective remakes. She was a
protagonist in the ongoing anime for the first five seasons,
travelling alongside Ash Ketchum and Brock to become the world's
best trainer of Water-type Pokémon before departing home to
Cerulean City to run the family gym, but made recurring
appearances after. The character has also appeared in manga like
Pokémon Adventures. She specialises in Water Type Pokémon. Her
Japanese voice actress is Mayumi Iizuka, while her English voice
was supplied by Rachael Lillis and Michele Knotz, while her Korean
voice was supplied by Ji Mi-Ae, Lee Chi-Hyeon, Kim Hyeon-Ji and
Yeo Minjeong.
